Mount Greylock's Smith, Kirby Win at Hoosac Valley

CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Mount Greylock freshman Margo Smith outdueled Lenox frosh Maggie Sorrentino in Wednesday's cross country meet at Hoosac Valley High School.
 
Smith finished in 18 minutes, 55 seconds, eight seconds ahead of Sorrentino.
 
The Millionaires filled the next three spots and six of the top 10. Emma Jourdain, Alice Najimy and Marion Huth placed third through fifth, respectively.
 
Jamie Barth of host host Hoosac cracked the top 10 with a time of 21:08. Mount Greylock's Emily Lescarbeau placed 10th.
 
Just outside the top 10 were Wahconah's Gabrielle and Danielle Orlando in 21:22 and 21:23, respectively.
 
In the boys race, Mount Greylock's Tommy Kirby led the way as the Mounties took eight of the top 10 spots.
 
Kirby finished in 16:08, 49 seconds ahead of teammate Evan Arthur.
 
Hoosac's Jared Haley was third in 17:18.
 
He was followed by Mount Greylock's Owen Brandriss, Jacob Fink, Cameron Castonguay, Jesse Seid, Josh Cheung and Sam Culver.
 
Wahconah's Jaryd Massaro (18:22) and Lenox's Harry Bruns (18:34) were 11th and 12th, respectively.
 
Next up for county's harriers is the Berkshire County Individuals meet on Oct. 31 at Reid Middle School in Pittsfield.
