Mount Greylock Boys Dominate at Monument Mountain

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Mount Greylock’s boys cross country team Wednesday swept the top five places in a five-team meet at Monument Mountain.
 
Senior Evan Arthur led the way with a time of 16 minutes, 44 seconds, setting a mile pace of 5:23.
 
He was followed across the finish line by teammates Sam Culver (17:15), Owen Brandriss (17:38), George Dalsin (17:40) and Josh Cheung (17:48).
 
The first non-Mountie in the boys race was Taconic’s Ryan Serre in sixth place at 17:48.
 
It was a closer battle in the girls race, where Lenox took five of the top 10 positions led by Emma Jourdain (19:05).
 
She edged Mount Greylock’s Margo Smith, who was the runner-up in 19:13.
 
Host Monument Mountain saw Grace and Meryl Phair each crack the top 10 in fourth and seventh, respectively.
 
Lenox’s other top-10 finishers were Maggie Sorrentino (19:59) in third, Alice Najimy (20:56) in fifth, Marion Huth (21:18) in eighth and Ellen Huth (21:51) in 10th.
 
Mount Greylock’s Niku Darafshi (21:11) and Emily Lescarbeau (21:49) rounded out the top 10, in sixth and ninth, respectively.
 
Pittsfield’s Lessley Columna led the Generals with a 14th place finish. Taconic’s Mary Hayes led her team in 26th out of 82 runners.
 
In the boys race, Pittsfield’s Greg Fournier (17:52) placed seventh. Monument’s Jared Henry (18:45) was 12th, and Lenox’s Harry Burns (19:43) was 21st.
