WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Ben Gilooly and Tenley Smith earned medalist honors with rounds of 40 Tuesday to lead the Mount Greylock golf team to a 174-176 win over Hoosac Valley at Waubeeka Golf Links.

The win avenged the Mounties’ only loss of the season and handed the Hurricanes their first setback this fall.

“The thing I’m most proud of is that we scored a 174,” Mount Greylock coach Mitchell Spooner said. “You’re going to need a score like that to be a good team like Hoosac Valley.

“Our guys seemed to take control on their home course.”

Bennett Zimmerman finished at 45, and Connor Daley shot a 49 to round out the scoring for the Mounties (6-1).

Gilooly birdied the 410-yard, par-4 second hole, and Daley notched a birdie on the 167-yard, par-3 third.

Derek Alibozek birdied No. 4, a 480-yard par-5, on his way to a team-low 42 for Hoosac Valley.

Corben Craig shot a 444, and Hayden Grimes and Luc Trombley each finished at 45 for the ‘Canes.

Hoosac Valley hosts Wahconah on Thursday while Mount Greylock goes to Taconic.
