Mount Greylock Claims Berkshire Holiday Title

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Jayquan Vazquez and Tanner Manning each took an individual title Saturday to lead the Mount Greylock wrestling team to a team victory at the Berkshire Holiday Classic.
 
Manning edged Athol’s Nicholas Leblanc, 11-9, to win the 285-pound title bout.
 
Vazquez pinned all three of his opponents, stopping Athol’s Jaiden Santer in the fourth minute of their title bout at 190 pounds.
 
Mount Greylock sent seven wrestlers to championship matches.
 
Cash Kolodziej (113), Maximus Soto (157) Cesar Soto (165), Jacob Borawski (175) Logan O’Connell (215) each placed second in his weight class to help the Mounties finish 13.5 points ahead of runner-up Otter Valley of Vermont.
 
Taconic and Mount Everett each too, one title in finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
 
Taconic got a win from Gavin Maffuccio, who pinned Athol’s Vincent Ithier with one second left in the first period of their 138-pound final.
 
Monument Mountain’s Mason St. Peter got a first round pin against Otter Valley’s Brady Babcock in the title bout at 106.
 
Mount Everett, which placed eighth as a team, picked up a pair of gold medals.
 
The Eagles’ Ian Lanoue beat Cesar Soto, 3-2, in the 165-pound final. His teammate Max Manning pinned Mohawk Trail’s Derik Pazmino to claim the title at 150.
