PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield High girls soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Oct. 16 with a 2-0 win over a competitive South Hadley team.

The Generals had an even more important celebration immediately after the game as they recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a $542 donation to the Berkshire Health Systems Women's Imaging Center Patient Care Services Fund.

This fund-raising effort was a joint effort between the the high school boys and girls programs as well as the Pittsfield Soccer Club Leeds U12 girls team.

"Everyone knows someone who has dealt with some type of cancer," PHS girls coach Andy Waluszko said. "We feel as a program it is very important for the girls to recognize and help out those individuals that deal with this type of illness. Teach them to help out individuals who are sick and in need of assistance.

"Maybe someday when they get older there will be a cure to beat cancer. They will have been part it."

The Women's Imaging Center Patient Care Services Fund was established to offer financial resources to assist women to either have screening tests performed for early detection of cancer, or, once diagnosed with a cancer, to have the medical and supportive necessities resulting from their treatment met.
