SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Lenox’s Max Shepardson carded a 7-over 79 Tuesday to lead the Berkshire County contingent at the Division 3 State Championship at the Ledges Golf Course.

Shepardson led the Millionaires to a seventh-place finish in the 13-team tournament with a score of 336, 34 strokes in back of team champion Weston.

Weston’s Zach Pelzar not only led his squad to a team championship, he took medalist honors with a 4-under round of 68.

Shepardson got off to a hot start, going 1-under through his first four holes. But he hit a rough patch with a bogey and a triple.

“I started to play well again, then I got a bloody nose in the middle of 9,” Shepardson said. “I made a double, made a bogey, and then I got back on track. I finished off pretty good.

“I really don’t know how I got the bloody nose. It just came out of nowhere. I wish it didn’t happen because I four-putted after it happened.”

Shepardson’s one birdie came on a 15-foot putt on his third hole of the shotgun start.

His score was backed up by Clifford Flynn with an 80, Devan Patel with an 83 and Brady Digritoli with a 94.

Mount Greylock, which placed second behind Lenox in the Western Mass tournament to qualify for Tuesday’s event, placed 12 in the state.

Ben Dingman led the Mounties with an 83. Owen Petropulos (86), Thomas Art (90) and Jacob Hillman (100) rounded out the scoring for Mount Greylock.
