Meisberger, Harvey Have Big Days at D2 Meet

BUCKLAND, Mass. -- Shannon Meisberger won the 400-meter hurdles and placed second in the 100 hurdles to lead the Lenox girls track and field team to a second-place finish at Saturday’s Western Massachusetts Division 2 Championships at Mohawk Trail Regional High School.
 
In the boys meet, Sean Harvey was a double-winner for Wahconah, which tied for second place in the team standings.
 
Meisberger and the Lenox girls finished with 67 points, behind host Mohawk (94).
 
Meisberger won the 400 hurdles in 1 minute, 5.55 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Allison Kinne of Monument Mountain (1:07.77). In the 100 hurdles, Meisberger finished 7-hundredths of a second behind champion Alexandra Gonet of Pope Francis (15:61).
 
Lenox’s Maggie Sorrentino won the 800 meters in a time of 2:21.34, edging Mount Greylock’s Maddie Albert in second (2:22.25).
 
Tova Brown of Lenox just missed the top of the podium in the 400 dash. Putnam’s Kwamesha Kyles won in 1:02.15; Brown was just behind in 1:02.29. The Millionaires’ Emma Jourdain was third in the two-mile run (11:41.19).
 
The Monument Mountain girls earned several top-three finishes, led by the team’s 4-by-400 relay quartet, which finished first in 4:09.09, well ahead of second-place South Hadley (4:18.63). The Spartans picked up a second place finish from Meri Powell in the 200 (:27.48) and a pair of thirds from Paige Gray in the shot put (31 feet, 4.5 inches) and the javelin (96-4).
 
Wahconah’s Harvey posted convincing wins in both hurdles.
 
In the 110, he finished in :15.91 to beat Pope Francis’ Michael Rucki (:16:52). In the 400, Harvey’s :57.86 was about a second and a half better than Mohawk’s Seth Hoynoski (:59.47).
 
Harvey’s Wahconah teammate, Matt Lighten, won the boys 100 in :11.21. Wahconah’s boys also swept the relays and got a second-place finish from Devin Mikaniewicz in the triple jump (40-9.5).
Hoosac Valley’s Peter Barrow had a big day in the throws. He won the shot put with a mark of 46-2 and placed second in the discus (125-2).
 
Monument’s Jordan Piepho made it a sweep of the throws for the Berkshire County contingent. He won the javelin in 143-1. His Spartan teammate Matt Weston placed third in the 200 dash with a time of 24 seconds flat.
 
Drury’s Connor Meehan won the 800 run in 1:56.42, more than three seconds ahead of Mohawk’s Cameron Olanyk. Mount Greylock’s Tommy Kirby won the 2-mile run in 10:03.91.
