Mount Everett Baseball Upset in Tournament
SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Noah Amaral scattered five hits in 5 and a third innings of work Wednesday to lead the St. Mary’s of Westfield baseball team to a 7-1 win over Mount Everett in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class D Tournament.
Matt Lowe went 3-for-3 with a double, and Jacob Kreis had a double and an RBI to account for the Eagles’ offense.
But Mount Everett’s letdowns on defense helped the Saints score six unearned runs against Eagles pitchers Brodie Kinna and Cam Coon.
“We picked a bad time to play our worst game,” Mount Everett coach Dan Lanoue said. “We had two errors in the third inning that led to six runs. We left 15 runners on base. The only good thing I can say is that we still have life. We will play one more game and fix things up going into the state tournament.”
Mount Everett first will play a crossover game against another quarter-final loser to finish out the regular season.
