CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Mitchell Clary went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored to lead the Taconic baseball team to a 5-4 win over Hoosac Valley on Thursday afternoon.

Alex Carusotto struck out seven for Taconic (8-4), which led 5-1 and survived a three-run rally by the Hurricanes in the bottom of the fifth.

Clary had the big hit in the second, a double with the bases loaded to give his team a 3-0 lead.

In the third, Matt Braman, Matt Koperniak and Brandon Tworig singled to help Hoosac get a run back.

Taconic got some insurance in the fourth. Carusotto's double and singles by Clary and Joshua Berthiaume helped make it 5-1.

In the fifth, Koperniak, Tworig and Sean Ryan-Kut singled to help produce three more Hoosac runs.

Braman in center field made two diving plays in the top of the sixth to keep it a one-run game.

But Carusotto stranded a runner in the bottom of the sixth and struck out the last two hitters in a one-two-three seventh to secure the win.

Hoosac coach Bob Rivard gave credit to senior Ty Clark and junior Zach Albareda with keeping the Hurricanes in the game with their pitching.

"We threw two kids out there today who haven't seen a lot of action in Albereda and Ty Clark, and they did a nice job for us," Rivard said. "I think we did a good job. Not as good as a win, but it is what it is. We're getting better. Hopefully going into the second half of the season here we'll be a little bit better than we were the first half."

Hoosac (6-5) travels to Wahconah on Monday.

Taconic has a big showdown with Pittsfield on Saturday.
