DALTON, Mass. – Sam McLaughlin struck out four and scattered four hits Monday in a complete-game effort on the mound as the Wahconah baseball team beat Mashpee, 2-0, in the first round of the Division 4 State Tournament.

Wahconah got all the offense it needed on a solo home run to left field by James Rabuse in the bottom of the first inning.

In the fourth, Joe Hoffman reached on a two-out error and went to second on Ben Barry’s single. Luke Ferguson then singled to right to drive in Hoffman and make it 2-0.

McLaughlin pitched around a leadoff single in the top of the fifth and a two-out single in the sixth to preserve the shutout.

No. 13 Wahconah (17-5) advances to meet No. 4 Millbury in the Round of 16.
