Mount Greylock Baseball Rally Falls Short in Seventh

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Mount Greylock baseball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh but dropped a 3-2 decision to Ware on Monday.
 
The visitors took a three-run lead in the second inning, cashing in on two bases-loaded walks and a ball to the backstop with a man on third.
 
In the seventh, Cole Wetherell hit a one-out single to right and moved up to third on a two-out single by Jake Newberry.
 
Mason Canata then reached on an error that allowed Wetherell to score and pinch-runner Jason Jaros to go to third.
 
Jaros then scored on the front end of a double-steal with Canata to move the tying run into scoring position before Ware was able to record the third out on a ground ball.
 
“We are a very young team with only two returning starters from last year,” Mount Greylock coach Rick Paris said. “But we do have some very talented you guys and will be OK. As we learn who we are and get some time outside these kids will be just fine.”
 
Mount Greylock’s Jameson Bayliss took the loss after 3-? innings of work. Jackson Shelsy and Jake Gladu combined for 3-? innings of scoreless relief.
 
Mount Greylock (0-1) goes to Frontier on Wednesday.
