Blanchard Leads Monument Mountain Baseball to Western Mass Semis

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Jackson Blanchard went 4-for-4 with a double, and the Monument Mountain baseball team scored four runs in the first inning en route 6-1 win over Southwick on Monday in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Division 3 tournament.
 
Graham Herrick tripled in two runs and scored on a Kade Grober single in that first inning.
 
The third-seeded Spartans (17-4) tacked on two more runs in the second inning, and starting pitcher Jared Henry made the lead stand up.
 
Henry went five innings on the mound, striking out 10 and allowing four hits and a run.
 
Herrick and Tyler Wade each pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
 
Henry went 2-for-4 at the plate.
 
Monument Mountain moves to Wednesday’s sectional semi-final against No. 2 Frontier (20-1), a 3-2 winner over Greenfield on Monday.
