Tantasqua Rallies Late to Edge Pittsfield

FISKDALE, Mass. – Peter Casine hit a one-out single to drive in a run that broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning Thursday and sent the Tantasqua baseball team on to a 5-3 win over Pittsfield in the Division 3 State Tournament Round of 16.
 
Fifth-seeded Tantasqua led 3-0 after four innings before the Generals (12-9) rallied for two in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game.
 
In the fifth, Connor Lavinio led off with a single, and his courtesy runner, Will Kinne, eventually scored on a wild pitch. Santino Arienti, who drew a walk, moved into scoring position on Morrie Fried’s single and eventually scored.
 
In the sixth inning, Lavinio hit a two-out single to drive in Tommy Mullin, who reached base after being hit by a pitch.
 
Lavinio and Nick Brindle each went 2-for-3 to lead Pittsfield’s offense.
 
Cam Hillard and Simon Mele split the pitching duties, striking out five and walking none between them.
