Miscues Cost Pittsfield Baseball in Narrow Road Loss
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Andrew Gagne went 2-for-3 with a double Monday to lead the Pope Francis baseball team to a 7-6 win over Pittsfield.
The Cardinals scored their runs on just four hits, taking advantage of four errors by the Generals to generate five unearned runs.
“[Simon] Mele threw a great game but our defense let us down,” Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said. “We cannot give up five unearned runs and beat a good team like Pope.”
Mele struck out eight and walked one in 4 and two-thirds innings of work on the mound.
He also went 2-for-3 with a home run. Morrie Fried matched him, going 2-for-3 with a homer and a pair of RBIs.
Pittsfield (12-4) goes to Monument Mountain on Tuesday.
