DALTON, Mass. -- The Wahconah boys lacrosse team held Chicopee’s high-powered offense in check on Saturday to earn a 10-4 win, Wahconah’s ninth win of the season and a berth in the Western Massachusetts tournament.

Dart Jaggi scored four goals, Matt Mathers had a hat trick, and Kyle Galillo scored two goals with two assists as Wahconah (9-3) won its sixth straight and assured itself no worse than a .500 record this spring.

"We knew they had some really talented attackmen and I'm very happy with my close defense Matt Cedar, Mike Fortin and Corey Bazonski,” Wahconah coach Zach Sondrini said. “Corey is a freshmen who was asked to defend the leading point scorer in Western Mass, and he held him to zero points. I'm very happy with how well he’s playing and our defense as a whole. I've been telling the guys all year that we have a special group of upperclassmen leadership mixed with underclassmen talent.”

Mathers had two assists to go along with his three goals.

“Sophomore Matt Mathers stepped up huge today when we were missing another starting attackmen [Wyatt Scheilcher] and made some amazing plays offensively,” Sondrini said. “He’s a great kid. Very coachable, tough and smart. I'm very proud and the future is bright.”

Vinny Orlandi made 12 saves for Wahconah, which goes to Pittsfield on Monday.
