GRAFTON, Mass. -- Emmy Cote scored four goals, but the Wahconah girls lacrosse team dropped a 17-10 decision to Grafton on Saturday in the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 quarter-finals.

Wahconah (14-7) trailed by just one goal at half-time against the 17-team tournament's second seed.

"We played a fantastic first half," Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. "We have struggled all season coming out strong in the second half and we did again today. We gave up five goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half and that was hard to come back from.

"I am proud of the girls for a great season, they did not give up and am looking forward to next season."

Jordan Budaj scored three goals, and Perin Genaway and McKenna McIlquham each had a goal and an assist. Lauren Melle scored once for Wahconah, which got 12 saves from Katie Bachli.

Grafton's Gianna DiPinto had a game-high five goals, and Lizzie Navin had a hat trick with four assists.

Cote's fourth goal for Wahconah gave her 100 points for the season.

"She has worked hard all season and it was nice to see her make this accomplishment," Budaj said.
