Wahconah Girls Rally Past West Springfield

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Jilly Cote scored five goals Friday to lead the Wahconah girls lacrosse team to a 12-10 win over West Springfield.
 
“It was a great game both ways,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. Both teams played hard.
 
“It was an amazing team effort, and it was so nice to see everyone work hard on both sides of the ball.”
 
Sydney Smith earned the win between the pipes with 12 saves.
 
It was a tied game, 4-4, at half-time.
 
Wahconah took the lead with 17 minutes, 7 seconds left when Emma Adams scored unassisted. Catie Ronayne followed with a goal to give the visitors a two-goal cushion, 8-6, with 14:43 on the clock. The Terriers could not get closer than within a goal the rest of the way.
 
Hannah Bowlby scored a pair of goals, and Grace Calvert had a goal and two assists.
 
Wahconah (3-1-1) goes to Bennington, Vt., to face Mount Anthony Union on Monday.
