DALTON, Mass. – Anna Doyle scored her fourth goal of the game in overtime Monday to give the Wahconah girls lacrosse team a 9-8 win over Pope Francis on Senior Night.

Ava Massaro and Norah Esko scored two goals apiece, and Phalyn Renderer stopped six shots to earn the win in goal.

“What a great win on Senior Night,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “Pope Francis tied it up with four minutes to go and the defense held them off. A couple of nice saves from Phalyn and tough defense forced the overtime.

“Pope Francis won the draw and again our defense held strong. Ava Massaro picked off a pass and transitioned up the field. Anna Doyle was able to find the back of the net to get the overtime win. Overall great team effort.”

Budaj said seniors Anna Naef, Paige Trager and Jhoselin Albuja Palacios were key in that defensive effort as Wahconah improved to 6-7 this spring.

Its next game is Wednesday at home against West Springfield.
