WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock girls lacrosse team nearly overcame a four-goal half-time deficit but ended up with a 12-11 loss to Bennington, Vt.’s, Mount Anthony Union on Friday.

Emily Aitland scored six goals and Bridget Ahearn had five to help the Patriots hand the Mounties their first loss of the season.

“It was a tough game tonight at Mount Greylock,” Mount Gryelock coach Lindsey von Holtz said. “Mount Greylock battled back to within one and had an opportunity with seconds left on the clock, but a charge penalty called back the goal and we were unable to gain possession in the final seconds.”

Sarah Stripp scored five goals, and Arianna Walden had an assist for the Mounties, who got nine saves from Julia Whitney.

Mount Greylock (11-1) travels to Lee on Tuesady.
