Lee Softball Battles to Nine-Inning Loss in State Tourney

LEE, Mass. – The Bourne softball team Monday came from behind to earn an 8-7 win over Lee in the first round of the Division 5 State Tournament.
 
Lee jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but the visitors came back to tie it with a run in the fourth and five in the top of the sixth.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Kamryn Renata drove in Arianna Hall to give the Wildcats a 7-6 lead.
 
Bourne tied it in the seventh to force extra innings.
 
After going ahead in the top of the ninth, Bourne allowed a two-out single by Karalynn Hopkins in the bottom of the inning. But Lee could not advance the runner.
 
Renata went 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles, and Taryn Bannon went 3-for-5 in the loss. Kylie Joyce and Makayla Schuerer each doubled.
 
Bri Lynch struck out 12 in nine innings of work in the circle, allowing just one earned run in the complete-game effort.
