SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Madison Sunderland struck out nine Thursday to lead the Ludlow softball team to a 7-1 win over Mount Everett.

The Lions led, 3-0, going to the seventh inning but pulled ahead with a four-run rally.

“Tough one today,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “The girls were making solid contact and adjusted from our first-time facing Ludlow, we just couldn't find that clutch hit to score in the beginning of the game. The girls played well last night, and I think coming off that emotional win we were a little flat and tired at the end which led to the four runs that last inning.”

Emily Steuernagle went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Eagles some hope.

Emma Goewey went 2-for-3.

Julia Devoti took the loss in the circle, striking out four and allowing three earned runs.

Mount Everett (7-5) hosts McCann Tech on Friday.
