SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Ludlow’s Olivia Slatton and Kylie Roach each hit two-run home runs in the top of the fifth inning Thursday to help the Lions pull away for a 21-6 win over Mount Everett.

Ludlow scored 15 runs over the last three innings to break open what was a 6-4 game going to the fifth.

“Really good game through the first four innings today,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “Both teams were making the plays, getting good contact on the ball and it was a good 6-3 battle. Chloe missed a couple of her spots in the 5th which led to 4 runs on 2 home runs and then our defensive miscues took over in the 6th which opened the floodgates and led to Ludlow's big lead.”

Aliyah Creamer went 4-for-4 and scored three times to lead Mount Everett’s offense.

The Eagles collected 11 hits but left 15 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the first and the sixth.

“We did have multiple chances in the early part of the game but couldn't plate any runners,” King said.

Ludlow drew first blood with a pair of runs in the top of the first, but Creamer worked a two-out walk and eventually scored on an error to make it 2-1.

Ludlow was up by five, 6-1, in the bottom of the third, when Creamer led off with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch and Makayla Carpenter walked and was driven in by Chloe Hotaling’s sacrifice fly.

Mount Everett made it a two-run game in the bottom of the fourth, when Ella Gennari reached on an error and scored on Emily Gilmore’s single to right field.

But Ludlow’s four-run fifth and six-run sixth put a run-rule victory in play with a 16-4 lead.

Down to, effectively, its last at-bat, Mount Everett rallied for a pair of runs.

Creamer singled, Carpenter drew a walk and London Krans hit an infield single to load the bases.

Then, with two out, Emily Roskidany and Ainlsey Krans hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it a 10-run margin and earn a seventh inning for the Eagles.

“We didn't give up and were able to add a couple to play the full seven today,” King said. “We will have a quick turnaround with Lee coming to play tomorrow and look to improve.”

The 2-6 Eagles host the Wildcats for a 4:30 first pitch on Friday.
