Greenfield Edges Wahconah Softball in Western Mass Final
AMHERST, Mass. -- Greenfield's Elizabeth Howland drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie and send the Green Wave on to a 2-1 win over Wahconah in the Western Massachusetts Division 2 championship game on Saturday afternoon at Sortino Field.
Wahconah (16-7) took the early lead when pitcher Abby Wells led off the game with a home run.
But Greenfield (19-2) scratched out a run in the bottom of the second.
First Howland was hit by a pitch. Then Gianna Conte drove her home with a double.
Olivia Joy earned the win on the mound, striking out 11.
Wahconah's Wells struck out five.
