Hoosac Girls Seeded First, Boys Second in Western Mass

Nine boys and seven girls teams from Berkshire County will be in the running for a Western Mass title as games start this Monday.
The Hoosac Valley girls, who are back-to-back defending champions, received the No.1 seed and a bye in the first round for Division 3. They will play Thursday, Feb. 26, against the winner of No.9 Wahconah and No.8 Mahar who play Monday at 7 p.m.
No.7 Monument will host No.10 Mount Greylock Monday as well. The Mounties lost to Monument in their first meeting of the season, 50-47, they then played them three games later and took away a 56-64 win.
"We sort of knew we'd be playing Monument, so we've already started some preparations," Mount Greylock coach Paul Barrett said. "They're definitely a different team now, as are we."
For Division 2 girls, Pittsfield earned the No.2 seed and will hosts No.7 North Middlesex on Friday at 7 p.m.
Division 4 Mount Everett girls, who were seeded No.8, will host No.9 Lee on Tuesday.
For the Division 4 boys; No.5 Lenox will host No.12 Holyoke Catholic, No.11 McCann will travel to No.6 Granby, and No. 8 Smith will hosts No.9 Mount Everett. These games will all be played Monday at 7 p.m.
Hoosac Valley earned the No.2 seed in Division 3 and they will host No.7 Mount Greylock, No.3 Drury will host No. 6 Renaissance, and No.4 Wahconah will host No.5 Pioneer on Thursday.
"We knew it was going to be tough, it's going to be a great tournament," Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. "We're happy to get a home game, but it's going to be a tough one, Pioneer is a good team."
For Division 2 Berkshire County teams, Pittsfield earned the No.3 seed and will play No.6 Quabbin at home on Thursday and No.8 Taconic will Travel to No.1 Longmeadow on Wednesday.
