In the year's first week, the second quarter was key for this week's iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week.

On Friday, Taconic senior Johnahyah Curry converted four 3-pointers in the final four minutes of the first half to help her team score 27 points in the period and take a 42-19 lead into half-time at Mount Everett.

Curry finished with a game-high 19 points, including five 3-pointers. Curry upped her scoring average to just under 11 points per game and added to her team-best two 3-pointers per game in the process.

She is one of the reasons Taconic is off to a 5-1 start heading into Tuesday's game at Lee.

Speaking of Lee, that was the site of one of the season's big upsets in Berkshire County basketball as the Wildcats of the South Division knocked off North contender Wahconah.

It was Lee's second win of the week, and senior Myles Whitney-Nason had 37 points in the victories.

No bucket was bigger than the dunk he threw down after stealing a pass out of Lee's halfcourt press in the seconcd quarter.

The points started an 8-0 run that gave Lee a working margin it never surrendered. And the flair fired up the crowd and Whitney-Nason's teammates.

"Any team is going to feed off momentum," Lee's Ben Harding said after his double-double in the win. "We're so close as a team, so when one of us is doing well, we're all doing well.

"When a big play like that happens, I think we all just feed off the energy."

Lee will look to keep that momentum going and get over the .500 mark for the season on Monday when it visits Mount Everett.
