GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Dom Calautti scored 15 points, and the Monument Mountain boys basketball team outscored Wahconah, 20-9, in the fourth quarter to earn a 56-44 win on Friday night.

Four Spartans scored in double figures as Monument Mountain won its 10th game and secured a berth in the Division 4 State Tournament.

Finn Wheeler scored 13 points, and Finn Mason and Sam Barcenas added 12 and 10, respectively, in the win.

“In the fourth quarter the Spartans were down 38-36 and ran off 11 straight points to take a 47-38 lead before Wahconah answered with a 3,” Monument Mountain coach Randy Koldys said. “During that run five different players scored.

“Every one of my guys did a whole lot tonight to contribute to the win.”

Calautti pulled down 18 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Jack DuCharme scored 15, and Cooper Calvert had 13 to lead Wahconah.

After giving up 69 points in Dalton earlier this year, the Spartans Friday played their best defense of the year, Koldys said.

“I was really proud of the guys to respond the way we did after a tough loss last Friday,” he said. “We have a lot of guts and perseverance. We keep bouncing back and I love these guys for that.”

Wahconah (12-5) finishes the regular season on Monday at home against South Hadley.

Monument Mountain (10-7) hosts Belchertown on Monday.
