McElroy Comes Up Big Late in Close Win for Spartans

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Khalil Carlson scored 16 points, and Griffin McElroy made some big shots late to lead the Monument Mountain boys basketball team to a 53-50 win over South Hadley on Wednesday night.
 
McElroy finished with 13 points, and Luke Arienti, Sebastian Guete-Ramirez and Manny Brown each scored six in the win.
 
“No team had a bigger lead than five points the whole night,” Spartans coach Randy Koldys said. “South Hadley led at the end of one, 15-12. We led, 26-23, at half.
 
“Griffin McElroy hit a half-court 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter to give Monument a 42-37 lead going into the last eight minutes. McElroy also made 4 of 5 free throws in the last 50 seconds to help the Spartans maintain their slim lead.”
 
Monument Mountain (14-2) hosts Lenox on Saturday.
