Drury Downs Hoosac Valley
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Megan McGrath and Ella Bond each scored 10 points Thursday to lead the Drury girls basketball team to a 52-43 win over Hoosac Valley.
Reagan Shea scored a game-high 21 to lead the Hurricanes, who dropped a 25-point loss to the Blue Devils the first time around.
This time, the teams were tied, 20-20, at half-time.
“It was a gutsy win for our team tonight,” Drury coach Ian Downehy said. “Drury versus Hoosac never cares about records or past performances. Whether it’s a boys’ or girls’ game, you know it’s going to be a battle, and tonight was no different.”
The difference was the third quarter, when Drury outscored Hoosac Valley, 19-15.
McGrath scored six points in the third, which saw Bond hit one of her two 3-pointers and Ashlyn Hayden (seven points) go 3-for-4 at the free throw line.
Elise Daly and Delaney Hayden also scored seven points apiece for the Blue Devils, who held off Hoosac Valley’s comeback bid in the fourth.
“Megan McGrath came up with some huge defensive steals down the stretch, and Ella Bond, who is quickly becoming our fourth-quarter closer, knocked down some big three-pointers when we needed them most,” Downey said.
Izabela Tart scored nine points for Hoosac Valley (3-7), which goes to South Hadley on Friday.
Drury (7-3) is at Pioneer on Friday.
