NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- With 31.7 seconds on the clock Wednesday night, Mount Greylock girls basketball coach Paul Barrett called a timeout with his team trailing Drury by three.

Barrett, whose team held the lead up until the sixth minute of the final quarter, was hoping to come back for the win, but fortunately for the Blue Devils they were able to hold on for a 42-37 win Wednesday evening at Drury High School.

“We were trying to get a steal, and if we didn’t, we were supposed to be ready to foul right away,” Barrett said. “We ended up having the wrong person fouling the wrong person.”

Barrett, whose team is young and lost senior and leading scorer Lucy Barrett in the second quarter due to an ankle injury, is still looking to put all the pieces together for end of the game situations like Wednesday  evening.

“It’s still a function of the fact that we are young and really haven’t been in those situations before,” he said.

The Mounties were able to hold the lead throughout 18 minutes with their shots falling and Drury’s coming up short. The Blue Devils also were struggling from the line; they finished the game 12 for 29 on the foul line.

“We got a win and we’ve been struggling to get a win,” Drury Coach Jay Meehan said. “It’s nice to get a win on our home floor, it keeps us alive, but offensively we’ve been struggling all year to finish and same thing with free throws.”

Although Drury struggled from the line all evening, Molly Moulton was able to hit two key shots from the free throw line that gave the Devils their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter. From there they were able to hold the lead for the win.

Despite Barrett’s injury in the second quarter, she attempted to come back out in the third, but was unable to play through her pain. She finished the game with 15 points.

“She’s an important part of our team and more than just scoring wise,” Paul Barrett said. “I hope it’s not too bad, but people are going to have to start stepping up.”

For Drury, Jenna Moulton finished with 13 points, Molly Moulton had 10, and Katie Toomey had nine.

Drury takes on Monument Mountain tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. Mount Greylock hosts Lenox Friday evening at 7.
