Wahconah Girls Roll into Sweet 16

DALTON, Mass. – Olivia Gamberoni scored 20 points, and the Wahconah girls basketball team got off to a hot start en route to a 66-40 win over New Mission in the Division 4 State Tournament on Friday.
 
Wahconah grabbed a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and was up 35-13 at half-time in its state tourney debut.
 
Grace Wigington hit three first-quarter 3-pointers and scored 11 of her 17 points in the first eight minutes of the game.
 
Gamberoni scored 18 points through three quarters.
 
Dani Barry added eight points, and Oliva Mason and Madison McCarthy each scored six in the win.
 
Third-seeded Wahconah (19-3) moves on to the Sweet 16, where it will host No. 14 Easthampton on a date and time to be announced. In the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class B tournament, Wahconah beat Easthampton, 68-49.
