GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Maya Velasco stole the ball with 20 seconds left, got fouled and hit the game-winning free throw to give the Monument Mountain girls basketball team a 46-45 come-from-behind win over Agawam on Thursday.

“Another team win,” Monument Mountain coach John Perreault said. “We lost by 14 last week on their court. Tonight, we were down by seven with under two minutes to play.”

Natalie Lewis and Evi Higgins returned to action from the COVID-19 protocol and scored 10 points apiece. Abby Dohoney scored eight.

And the Spartans’ defense, which allowed 53 points at Agawam, cut that total by eight points the second time around.

Monument Mountain (6-3) takes a two-game winning streak into Tuesday’s game at Amherst.
