SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Olivia Marion scored 19 points Wednesday to lead the South Hadley girls basketball team to a 49-43 win over Monument Mountain in the semifinals of the Western Massachusetts Class B regional tournament.

Marion shot 10-for-12 at the foul line in the second half to help the Tigers erase an 18-16 half-time deficit.

The Spartans (12-8) struggled at the foul line, going 5-for-16.

“We normally are a good free throw shooting team,” Monument Mountain coach John Perrault said. “But it certainly hurt us tonight. We had a chance to cut it to a four-point lead and just could not make it happen.

“Our girls played really hard tonight. We just fell short.”

Natlie Lewis scored 12 points to lead Monument Mountain, which got six points apiece from Elee Hull and Kayleigh Davis.

South Hadley moves on to Saturday’s regional final against Wahconah at Westfield High.

The Spartans learn this weekend where and when it will begin play in next week’s state tournament.
