Short-Handed Lenox Girls Fall in State Quarter-Finals
HYANNIS, Mass. – Marlo Jumper and Devin Crofford scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, Friday to lead the St. John Paul II girls basketball team to a 47-37 win over Lenox in the Division 5 State Quarter-Finals.
Claire O’Brien and Grace Julieano scored nine points apiece in their final varsity game to lead the Millionaires, who got eight points in limited minutes from Evelyn Julieano.
O’Brien made three 3-pointers in the first half to help Lenox take a 26-24 lead at the break. But just before half-time, Lenox was dealt a blow.
“Evelyn got hurt right before half-time with an injured foot,” Lenox coach Nicole Patella said. “We were trying to work through it in the second half, then Katie Shove went down at the end of the third quarter and did not return.
“These injuries impacted the rest of the second half, but the rest of the team came together to give it their own. Our senior captains left everything on the floor, and I’m proud of their leadership and dedication to their teammates.”
The Millionaires finish the season with a record of 7-14.
