The Parks Commission is asking the Kiwanis Club to remove two flags — one of which has become linked to white supremacy — from its Park of Honor on Park Square.
But the town manager acknowledged Sunday that the patches in question could be "easily confused" with the "Blue Lives Matter" symbolism that has been employed nationwide and in town to counter the Black Lives Matter movement.
In the decade that the Pittsfield Kiwanis have been holding this fundraiser, the club has raised more than $1 million in scholarships. This year, it sold more than 400 flags.
The city unveiled a newly installed flag disposal box that will provide residents with a safe place to respectfully dispose of American flags.
