The fire was under control in approximately 15 minutes. Fire damage was contained to the rear of the garage storage unit and the floor and wall of the apartment above.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries but the house, which is largely charred down the foundation, is a total loss and remains under investigation.
Neighbor Michael Connors said he could see flames as he turned on to Cromwell and was calling 911 when he saw the woman just outside of the enclosed front porch.
The alarm occurred around 6:30 p.m. just after Cory Wilcox, Nico Amuso, Nathan Myers, and Alexander Sawicki were appointed to the Pittsfield Fire Department during City Council.
Firefighters quickly got the fire under control. there were no injuries and there was light smoke, water, and structural damage in the attic and second for bedroom ceiling.
Deputy Chief Daniel Garner reported that the Fire Department was alerted to the blaze at 23 East Mill at 4:39 p.m. on Dec. 25. Firefighters found flames venting from windows on the first floor of the 2 1/2 story wood frame structure.
An unresponsive victim was found in the second-floor bedroom, and they were removed through an exterior window. They were transported to Berkshire Medical Center. The victim is still being treated at BMC.
