Boston, MA - Garelick Farms announced today its support of Camp To Belong, a nationally - acclaimed, non-profit summer camp where siblings who've been separated while placed in the foster care system get to spend a dream week together. The Massachusetts affiliate of Camp To Belong opens this August at Camp Wingate-Kirkland on Cape Cod and w/ill host sibling groups from across the entire state of Massachusetts.
To support this initiative, Garelick Farms presented a $10,000 Over the Moon Dare to Dream Big Award to Lynn Price, Founder of Camp To Belong, at the official Boston launch of Camp To Belong Massachusetts hosted by local philanthropists, Bianca and Edward Latessa. The company's donation will make it possible for sixty siblings in care to attend camp this summer.
"For the past four years, Garelick Farms has partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Social Services to help recruit foster families. Many children are separated from their siblings simply because there are not enough foster families to place them in homes together. This year we're not only helping to recruit foster families, but also to reunite siblings who are living separately. We want to help them make this sibling dream come true," stated Matt Samson, Garelick Farms' Marketing Director.
Lynn Price, Founder of Camp To Belong, reminds us that siblings are the longest relationships we have in life, most often surpassing the parent-child relationship. "Camp To Belong provides the opportunity to forge that sibling bond and create childhood memories together. With Garelick Farms' support, we can not only provide camperships for sibling groups to attend Camp To Belong but also create greater awareness in New England regarding the significance of sibling connection placed separately while in care and the need for more foster families," she adds.
Of the more than 600,000 kids living in foster care in the United States, 75% are separated from at least one sibling. Camp To Belong's primary goal is to provide a sense of belonging to youth as individuals, and as siblings, giving them opportunities to share childhood memories together and among other youth in the same situations. Best known for its summer camp sessions, Camp To Belong recently completed the tenth summer camp season reuniting over 1,500 separated siblings across the United States and Canada to date.
Lynn's childhood experience in foster care separated from her older sister, Andi Andree, inspired her to create the organization. Camp To Belong and Lynn have received numerous accolades including the Points of Light President's Service Award. CBS Morning Shows American Hero, L'eggs Hosiery Women Who Shape Our World honor, Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network Use Your Life Award, Redbook Magazine's Mother and Shaker of the Year honor.
Camp To Belong Massachusetts has partnered with The Treehouse Foundation, the Berkshire Center for Families and children, Casey Family Services, Massachusetts Families For Kids, Kids Who Care Foundation, Adoptive Families Together, Camp Starfish, AFC Mentoring and the Massachusetts Society for Prevention Cruelty to Children to bring this sibling reunion program to Massachusetts siblings in care.
