Lenox, - Capitol Steps, the award-winning musical satire group celebrating its 25th anniversary will be performing at Cranwell Resort, Spa and Golf Club in Lenox, Massachusetts this July and August. While the Capitol Steps have performed in all 50 states, this marks the group's first season-long run in Massachusetts. Shows will run July 3 through September 2, at 8:00 nightly except Tuesdays (excluding opening night).
Recently nominated for the prestigious Drama Desk award for "Outstanding Lyrics!" and winner of the 2006 WUSA A-List for Best Comedy Club 2006, the Capitol Steps have reached many fans. Larry King of CNN has said, "They're the best. There's no one like them, no one in their league." and former President George H. W. Bush was quoted as saying "The Capitol Steps make it easier to leave public life."
Since they began in 1981, the Capitol Steps have recorded 27 albums, including "Springtime for Liberals". They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard 4 times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their "Politics Takes a Holiday" radio specials. They'll be performing songs from their latest albums "I'm So Indicted" and "Springtime for Liberals", as well as other current issues in the news. The show promises to hit both sides of the aisle and the songs will change with the scandal of the day. Convenient pre-show dining is available at the historic Wyndhurst Restaurant in the Mansion or at Sloane's Tavern with the option of outdoor terrace seating overlooking the golf course. Marionette Shows At Ventfort Hall for Children
LENOX, Mass. — The puppeteer Carl Sprague will return to Ventfort Hall Gilded Age Mansion and Museum in Lenox with Rapunzel for two holiday vacation week marionette performances.
The dates and times are Saturday, Dec. 27 and Monday, Dec. 29, both at 3:30 pm. The audiences will have the opportunity to meet Sprague after.
Sprague, who has appeared annually at Ventfort Hall with his "behind the scenery" mastery, has been a puppeteer since childhood. He inherited a collection of 60 antique Czech marionettes, each about eight inches tall that were assembled by his great-grandfather, Julius Hybler. Hybler's legacy also includes two marionette theaters.
Also, Sprague has been a set designer for such motion pictures as "The Royal Tenenbaums" and Scorcese's "The Age of Innocence," as well as for theater productions including those of Shakespeare & Company.
Admission to the show is $20 per person; $10 for children 4-17 and free for age 3 and under. Children must be accompanied by adults. Ventfort Hall is decorated for the holidays.
