PITTSFIELD - The Berkshire Museum will offer the family program "All Aboard the Polar Express," featuring a screening of the holiday film in the Little Cinema, on Sunday, Dec. 16. "The Polar Express" (2004, 1 hour 40 minutes, rated G) will be screened at 2 p.m. Children are encouraged to bring a favorite teddy bear or doll. Following the film, children may decorate a T-shirt for their toy. Hot chocolate and other treats inspired by the film will be served. The program is free with Festival of Trees admission of $9 adults, $7.50 seniors, $6 children 3-18 (members $5/$4/$3). Advance tickets to the film are available at the museum or by calling 413-443-7171, Ext. 10. The gingerbread train decorating offered earlier in the day is sold out. "The Polar Express" is offered in connection with the Festival of Trees "On the Move," on view at the museum through Dec. 31. The Festival of Trees is sponsored by Legacy Banks Foundation. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, "The Polar Express" is based on the children's book by Chris van Allsburg. Tom Hanks plays five roles, including Santa and the Conductor. The film was animated using motion-capture technology. It follows the journey of a magical train to the North Pole on Christmas Eve with a boy who is no longer sure of his belief in Santa Claus. The film and activities are offered in connection with the 23rd annual Festival of Trees on view through Dec. 31. The 200 decorated trees celebrate this year's theme "On the Move" as tree designers looked to planes, trains, and automobiles for inspiration. Highlights of the festival include displays of vintage wind-up toys from the private collection of Victor Reiling, model trains, and antique skis, skates, and sleds from the museum’s collection. The museum is at 39 South St., Route 7. The galleries are open Monday through Saturday, 10 to 5, and Sundays noon to 5.
