PTTTSFIELD – The Legacy Banks Foundation has contributed $5,000 to the Pittsfield Family YMCA to support its Character Counts Improvement Program. A comprehensive fundraising effort, the Character Counts Program will allow the YMCA to make needed repairs to its Child Care Center as well as develop a Healthy Kids Studio in its ongoing effort to combat childhood obesity. Serving as the venue for the YMCA's Healthy Kids Program, the studio will provide for a program of structured physical activity designed to help children maintain a healthy weight by conditioning their bodies in addition to strengthening their character and self-image. "We are pleased to join with the Pittsfield Family YMCA in helping to implement this important program that will start our youth on the path of healthy living. We applaud those who are working toward reversing the disturbing trend of overweight adolescents by educating both children and their parents about the benefits of wellness," said Richard Sullivan, president of The Legacy Banks Foundation. In addition to the Healthy Kids Studio, the Character Counts Program will assist the YMCA to complete maintenance and enhancements to the Child Care Center. Serving Berkshire County residents for 122 years, the Pittsfield Family YMCA develops educational, cultural, intellectual and physical programs to help build the mind, body and spirit of its members. Randy Kinnas, executive director of the Pittsfield Family YMCA said, "The continued support from Legacy Banks is a true testament of their commitment to the health and well being of children in our community." The Legacy Banks Foundation provides support to non-profit organizations helping to enhance the lives of those who work and live in our community with an emphasis on six major areas - affordable housing, economic development, education, health and human services, civic and community, and arts and culture.
