Lita Williams

Ms. Lita Williams is a 16 year old singer/songwriter from Hawaii who now attends Drury Senior High School in North Adams. An aspiring country musician, Lita has a remarkable singing voice and a seemingly God given talent to put words into song. She is a self-taught guitarist and is in the process of learning several other instruments. Lita has a passion to entertain and has chosen Country Music as a way to express herself.

She had an opportunity to perform this summer at the JuneFest celebration which opened the door for other opportunities such as her performances at Due Baci's during the North Adams downtown celebration and, most recently, at the Block Party 2000 in Pittsfield on September 19.

Bruce McKay, a Western MA native with a great many years of experience in musical production and entertainment, has agreed to take Lita under his wing as she develops her career. Bruce will arrange some of the best session players to work with Lita to produce a CD with her own material. There is also a video planned, which will be produced and directed by Bruce, that will be used for promotional purposes.

In order to make all of this happen for Lita there has to be funding available. This is why we are inviting you to a coming out party to show some local support for her financially. The cost of what we have planned will be about $4,000. Here is a list of the things that will be happening: session players, studio time, wardrobe, photographer, videotapes, cd production and distribution, travel and voice training lessons.

As you can see there is a lot to putting this together. To raise the funding necessary, we are planning an event at Gringo's on the Curran Highway in North Adams. The event will take place Thursday, October 26 from 7 - 10 pm. Lita will be performing some of today's biggest country songs as well as several of her original masterpieces. There is no specific cost associated with this event but we hope you will be able to attend and help her in any way you see fit. There will be, along with her performance, appetizers served from Nicholas Professional Catering. Also, included in the evening's festivities will be a chance to win a trip to Mexico. For every $10 you decide to give to Lita you will receive a ticket for the drawing to be pulled that evening.

We will be forming "The Friends of Lita Williams" that evening. We will produce a semi-annual newsletter to keep everyone updated on her progress and everyone who helps with funding Lita that evening will receive an autographed photo. It will be a lot of fun watching her star rise! We hope you can join us. If you cannot attend but would like to help her you may mail a check or money to the addresses below.

McCann Recognizes Superintendent Award Recipient

Landon LeClair and Superintendent James Brosnan with Landon's parents Eric and Susan LeClair, who is a teacher at McCann.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Superintendent's Award has been presented to Landon LeClair, a senior in McCann Technical School's advanced manufacturing course.

The presentation was made last Thursday by Superintendent Jame Brosnan after Principal Justin Kratz read from teachers' letters extolling LeClair's school work, leadership and dedication.

"He's become somewhat legendary at the Fall State Leadership Conference for trying to be a leader at his dinner table, getting an entire plate of cookies for him and all his friends," read Kratz to chuckles from the School Committee. "Landon was always a dedicated student and a quiet leader who cared about mastering the content."

LeClair was also recognized for his participation on the school's golf team and for mentoring younger teammates.

"Landon jumped in tutoring the student so thoroughly that the freshman was able to demonstrate proficiency on an assessment despite the missed class time for golf matches," read Kratz.

The principal noted that the school also received feedback from LeClair's co-op employer, who rated him with all fours.

"This week, we sent Landon to our other machine shop to help load and run parts in the CNC mill," his employer wrote to the school. LeClair was so competent the supervisor advised the central shop might not get him back.
