| Why are there such short trick or treat hours? In many cases you may have to walk a bit between houses with lights on...not much time for little children to get from house to house. | |

| Why the "short" hours??? Because then you'd have all the mini-vans from one town driving up to my house in another town and unleashing hordes on my house after our hours are over. | |

| The area where I grew up in PA, they'd designate 4-5:30 for elementary and earlier ages, and 5:30 til 8 for the older kids. The towns in the area did a cooperative schedule so that there would be 3 consecutive days of trick or treat each night in a different town and ending on Halloween night. | |

| Pittsfield is on MONDAY 5 - 7. Only the parade is on Friday. If you notice the other towns that have it on a different day other than Monday, it specifies which day and it is in BOLD. | |

| Come on people 5 to 7 i used to go out as a kid and trick or treat till 9 Parents send your kids out on Halloween night let them stay out till 9 and the hell with the stupid rules the town tries to put on Halloween. Stick up for our rights and go with tradition not the stupid politician. | |

Editor: Maybe the people handing out the candy don't want kids knocking on the door at 9. Plus, it's a school night.

| The City of Pittsfield website claims that trick or treat starts at 5:30 and not 5:00. Does anyone know the correct time?? | |

Editor: We'll call and check. City Hall gave us a time of 5-7 a few weeks ago. Update Tuesday, Oct. 19: the Pittsfield website has a time of 5-7.

| Hours should be extended for rick or treating. After all it is for "KIDS".Walking with a 3 and 4 year old is slow and a stroller makes it even slower!Plus the amount of houses actually handing out candy is few and far between sometimes. It is not the point of getting the most candy but the fun kids have doing it but at the same times kids like to fill a plastic bucket at least. It is sad a kids gets home and says "Mommy I didn't get much for all that walking".One and a half hours out in rain and cold for less than a store bag of candy. We might be better off buying a few bags and staying home and making a party instead!Very sad so I hope they extend hours. | |

| Is this a joke? Trick-or-treating isn't something that is scheduled by municipal government. It is a national tradition. Where I live, trick-or-treating typically lasts until 9 PM. Oh, and by the way, Halloween is on October 31st. I feel bad for the children who live in this region with such crusty adults. | |

| i dont understand why they have limits for trick or treating hours.its dumb and its very hard when u have to watch over little kids. it's not something the govenment should be able to control because it's a national traditon. | |
| from: BooGhoul | on: 10-31-2011 01:35PM I Agree (2) - I Disagree (1) |
Editor: OMG, they're not going to arrest you if you continue to trick-or-treat! This is to let residents know when they expect the kids to be around. I don't know why anyone would be dragging their kids around at 9 on a school night to beg for candy. And if you can't get around your neighborhood in an hour or so, you're going way far afield.

| Cheshire was at 5:30, not 5pm. Had the kids all ready, then drove by the fire station where the hours were posted. Had to wait for 30 minutes. | |

McCann Committee Gets First Look at $17M Renovation Progress

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The McCann School Committee got a first look at the final stretch of a $17 million overhaul aimed at making the 64-year-old vocational school safer, quieter and more energy-efficient.
After a brief School Committee meeting Thursday, Superintendent James Brosnan led the members through the school, highlighting some of the changes made in the 64-year-old building.
"Just seeing this gives you a magnitude of the amount of work that goes on," he said.
The upgrades are being funded through the Massachusetts School Building Authority's Accelerated Repair Program and the Northern Berkshire Vocational School District's member towns.
Work was supposed to be completed before the start of the school year, but weather and the removal of materials caused a delay.
The tour was all indoors, and Brosnan told a disappointed committee that he was hesitant to take them onto the roof at night, but said the new roof is near 80 percent down.
"We have another 10, and 10 percent of that missing 20 is in the AVB [air and vapor barrier] and removal phase," Brosnan said. "That particular area is across the front, down the post-secondary ... we are going to pick up from guidance. So we have that plan going through next week. Fingers crossed, within two weeks we will have that piece down."
He said the roof has been built up and insulated for more efficiency.
