Guido’s Fresh Marketplace raises a toast to CET

Print Story | Email Story
Great Barrington, Mass. - On Thursday, April 23, Guido’s Fresh Marketplace will host a wine tasting event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Great Barrington store to benefit the community outreach efforts of the Center for Ecological Technology (CET).

The event is open to the public and tickets will be available at the door for $10 per person. CET will have an informational table set up at the Great Barrington store during the week preceding the event. CET staff will be available at the wine tasting with information about upcoming events and opportunities that can help people save energy, money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“During these challenging economic times, CET is a resource to help people save money and protect the environment. We help businesses, citizen groups, communities and individuals take easy and practical steps that save energy, generate clean energy, and reduce waste, energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions,” said CET Director Laura Dubester. “We realize that ‘being green’ can be confusing or overwhelming to some people. CET makes being green make sense.”

In the last year alone, CET reached out to support, educate and inspire more than 20,000 people. Some of CET’s recent accomplishments include teaching standing-room crowds about renewable energy technologies like solar and small wind; and enrolling more than 1,000 households in New England GreenStart, to support clean, renewable electricity. CET helps businesses, supermarkets and schools set up recycling and composting programs, and works in schools to engage students and teachers in science, and math by turning schools into learning laboratories where real world environmental solutions are developed.

In 2008, CET conducted energy audits in more than 2000 homes, which resulted in efficiency improvements and savings of energy dollars for these homeowners. CET also helps builders, building inspectors and homeowners build more energy efficient and environmentally sensitive homes; and has helped towns earn tens of thousands of dollars in Clean Energy Funds to invest in renewable energy project such as solar photovoltaic systems on their schools or town buildings.
