WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mezze Bistro + Bar, Mezze Restaurant Group’s flagship restaurant, has been recognized as a 2009 Editors’ Choice in Yankee Magazine’s Travel Guide to New England, on sale through the end of August. “Yankee’s editors and our trusted legion of travel writers select our Editors’ Choice winners,” says Yankee editor Mel Allen. “From their own experiences and tips from our readers, they research and find the most deserving establishments in New England. Recipients range from the rustic to the refined, but all are noteworthy and memorable destinations,” he added.

Spotlighting the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts, Yankee Magazine describes Mezze Bistro + Bar as follows: “This urbane restaurant's refined wood-beamed and white-linen interior is the go-to spot for Williamstown Theatre Festival patrons and other loyal fans of dramatically good bistro fare. Deceptively simple yet full-flavored local lamb and beef draw rave reviews, and come apple season, it'd be downright criminal to miss the textbook rendition of tarte tatin.”

Opened in February 1996, Mezze Bistro + Bar serves New American cuisine focusing on the bounty of the region – local, farm-fresh produce, meats, cheeses and breads. The food is handcrafted by Chef Joji Sumi, who takes great care to provide local and seasonal ingredients paired alongside seasonal and small-production wines. Emphasis is on the highest quality ingredients combined with creative alchemy in the kitchen. In addition to Yankee Magazine’s recognition, Mezze Bistro + Bar has been called “Williamstown's hot spot” by Fodor’s Guide and “the town's best restaurant” by TimeOut NY.

Mezze Bistro + Bar will also be recommended on YankeeMagazine.com.

Located in downtown Williamstown at 16 Water Street, Mezze Bistro + Bar serves dinner nightly beginning at 5 p.m. All major credit cards are accepted. For reservations, call 413-458-0123. Visit www.mezzeinc.com for more information.

St. Stan's Students Spread Holiday Cheer at Williamstown Commons

By Jack GuerinoiBerkshires Staff
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Students from St. Stanislaus Kostka School  in Adams brought the holiday spirit to Williamstown Commons on Thursday, delivering handmade Christmas cards and leading residents in a community caroling session.

"It honestly means the world to us because it means the world to them," said nursing home Administrator Alex Fox on Thursday morning. "This made their days. This could have even made their weeks. It could have made their Christmas, seeing the children and interacting with the community."

Teacher Kate Mendonca said this is the first year her class has visited the facility, noting that the initiative was driven entirely by the students.

"This came from the kids. They said they wanted to create something and give back," Mendonca said. "We want our students involved in the community instead of just reading from a religion book."

Preparation for the event began in early December, with students crafting bells to accompany their singing. The handmade cards were completed last week.

"It's important for them to know that it's not just about them during Christmas," Mendonca said. "It's about everyone, for sure. I hope that they know they really helped a lot of people today and hopefully it brought joy to the residents here."
