WMECo's 'Utility Days' to Assist Customers with Financial Challenges
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Western Massachusetts Electric Company is encouraging customers who may be having trouble paying their electric bill to participate in one of the three "Utility Days" it has scheduled this spring in Western Massachusetts. The events are designed to help customers with financial challenges get connected to WMECo programs and those available from local assistance agencies.WMECo's special assistance representatives will meet with customers one-on-one to develop budget plans, manage outstanding balances and reduce future bills through energy efficiency programs.
Customers who want to participate in Utility Days should bring their latest electric bill to the event, along with proof of gross household income from the past four weeks (or proof of unemployment or disability) and proof of public benefits, such as Fuel Assistance, WIC, MassHealth, etc.).
The dates and locations are:
Pittsfield: Saturday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., WMECo Pittsfield Work Center, 333 West St. (across from the Salvation Army)
Greenfield: Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Greenfield Community College downtown campus, 270 Main St. (next to Wilson's)
Springfield: Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Springfield Technical Community College, Scibelli Hall, One Armory Square

Additionally, WMECo has extended the shutoff protection period from March 15 to April 15. Customers with outstanding balances are encouraged to call the utility's Credit and Collections department as soon as possible at
800-286-2828, or 413-737-4600 in the Springfield calling area, to make a payment arrangement and prevent disconnection of service once the protection period is over.
