KEENE, N.H. — Mike LeBel's two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference in the SteepleCats' 4-2 win over the Keene Swamp Bats Tuesday night at Alumni Field.

The SteepleCats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Matt Petty scored from third base on a Devin Shines groundout and Chris Leon scored on a two-out single by Kevin Wager. The Swamp Bats got a run back in the bottom of the second inning, though, when Paul Karmas scored from second base after Thomas Conley reached on an error at third base by Petty. Tyler Bernard's solo home run in the bottom of the third inning tied the game 2-2.

After Chantz Mack singled to lead off the fifth inning is when Mike LeBel launched an Alex Wood pitch over the scoreboard in right-center field. That made the score 4-2, which would be the final.

The SteepleCats got a strong start from Ryland Parker. Parker went seven innings and allowed two runs, just one earned run, on five hits and a walk while striking out seven. Corey Vogt pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Sean Albury pitched a scoreless ninth. Swamp Bats starter Alex Wood lasted just five innings and allowed all four SteepleCats runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six.

Parker got the win and improved to 3-0 on the season. Wood took the loss and fell to 1-3. Albury picked up his league-leading 11th save of the season.

The Swamp Bats (15-18) will travel to Vermont on Wednesday to take on the Mountaineers. The SteepleCats (21-13) will be at Muzzy Field to take on the Bristol Collegiate Baseball Club.

Landon LeClair and Superintendent James Brosnan with Landon's parents Eric and Susan LeClair, who is a teacher at McCann.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Superintendent's Award has been presented to Landon LeClair, a senior in McCann Technical School's advanced manufacturing course.

The presentation was made last Thursday by Superintendent Jame Brosnan after Principal Justin Kratz read from teachers' letters extolling LeClair's school work, leadership and dedication.

"He's become somewhat legendary at the Fall State Leadership Conference for trying to be a leader at his dinner table, getting an entire plate of cookies for him and all his friends," read Kratz to chuckles from the School Committee. "Landon was always a dedicated student and a quiet leader who cared about mastering the content."

LeClair was also recognized for his participation on the school's golf team and for mentoring younger teammates.

"Landon jumped in tutoring the student so thoroughly that the freshman was able to demonstrate proficiency on an assessment despite the missed class time for golf matches," read Kratz.

The principal noted that the school also received feedback from LeClair's co-op employer, who rated him with all fours.

"This week, we sent Landon to our other machine shop to help load and run parts in the CNC mill," his employer wrote to the school. LeClair was so competent the supervisor advised the central shop might not get him back.
