BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. — Senior Jess Tietgens (Stamford, Vt.) and freshman Ashlee Scofield (Averill Park, N.Y.) each netted a pair of goals to lead Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts to a 5-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Trailblazers (5-2-2, 2-0-1 MASCAC) completed their scoring in the opening 22:10 of play, as Scofield tallied her first two collegiate markers in the third and 23rd minutes of action, respectively, while Tietgens added her seventh and eighth goals of the year in the ninth and 16th minutes. Senior Danielle Parenteau (Southampton) notched the other score of the day for MCLA off a corner in the 12th minute after assisting on Tietgens’ first tally.

Senior Samantha Miller (Reading) and sophomores Chelsea Beauchemin (Adams) and Lindsay Borbolla (Greenwich, N.Y.) also added helpers in the win for the Trailblazers, as junior Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, N.Y.) and sophomore Kate Tsapatsaris (Peabody) combined for three saves in splitting halves in goal for the visitors. Sophomore Rachel Johnson (South Chatham) made four stops in net in the setback for the host Buccaneers (2-5, 0-3 MASCAC), as MCLA outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 17-8 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday morning when the Buccaneers head to Fitchburg to take on Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 10 a.m., while MCLA travels to Chicopee on Thursday afternoon to take on Elms in a non-league outing beginning at 4 p.m.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Superintendent's Award has been presented to Landon LeClair, a senior in McCann Technical School's advanced manufacturing course.

The presentation was made last Thursday by Superintendent Jame Brosnan after Principal Justin Kratz read from teachers' letters extolling LeClair's school work, leadership and dedication.

"He's become somewhat legendary at the Fall State Leadership Conference for trying to be a leader at his dinner table, getting an entire plate of cookies for him and all his friends," read Kratz to chuckles from the School Committee. "Landon was always a dedicated student and a quiet leader who cared about mastering the content."

LeClair was also recognized for his participation on the school's golf team and for mentoring younger teammates.

"Landon jumped in tutoring the student so thoroughly that the freshman was able to demonstrate proficiency on an assessment despite the missed class time for golf matches," read Kratz.

The principal noted that the school also received feedback from LeClair's co-op employer, who rated him with all fours.

"This week, we sent Landon to our other machine shop to help load and run parts in the CNC mill," his employer wrote to the school. LeClair was so competent the supervisor advised the central shop might not get him back.
