MCLA Presents! Rock the Block The Performing Arts Management class (PAM) at MCLA presents “Rock the Block”. The event which is set to take place downtown North Adams marks the first PAM showcase to move off of the MCLA campus. Performances by MCLA Jazz Band, Allegrettos A cappella Group, Drury Jazz, Spooky & the Nomads, Quiet Friday, Yorick Shakespeare Club, Nexxus Step Team, Harlequin Musical Theatre Club and DJ Leila will take place throughout the day beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m. “Debo Band” an 11-member group led by Ethiopian-American saxophonist Danny Mekonnen and fronted by charismatic vocalist Bruck Tesfaye will headline the final event of the day. Don’t miss the party! |

Koran By Heart Both a thrilling competition film and an engaging survey of the unique experiences of Muslim children throughout the world, Koran By Heart (Greg Barker, 2011) uses the cultural crossroads of the international competition of Koran recitation in Cairo to examine the issues facing the next generation of Muslims. The screening is part of MASS MoCA’s documentary film series titled Strategic Thinking, celebrating people whose unconventional and irrepressible approach in the face of various injustices have led to extraordinary achievements. |

Annual High School Art Show The Annual High School Art Show after opening at MASS MoCA over the weekend is moving to the Eclipse Mill Gallery for a 3 weekend run. The show features work from the area’s finest art students. Participating are Buxton, Drury, BART, Mount Greylock, Pine Cobble and Hoosac Valley schools. Please join us on April 27th 6pm-9pm for a reception to celebrate the creative talents of our local students. The Eclipse Mill Gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays 12pm-5pm. The exhibit will run through May 6th. |

Royal Berkshire Improv Troupe (RBIT) RBIT is a comedy improv group that has been delighting audiences with its own brand of non-scripted comedic mayhem since June of 2001. Performing a mix of theater games reminiscent of the TV show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" the group models its work on the teachings of renowned theater games/improvisation instructor Keith Johnstone. Through audience participation, RBIT's mission is to create entertaining scenes which explore the boundaries of theater improvisation. |

Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez The long-time vocalist with the SNL Band, Christine Ohlman has a voice that, said one critic, “is out to rearrange your furniture.” Here she’ll perform her incendiary blues-and-soul-tinged music with her band Rebel Montez. Known as the "Beehive Queen" she’s been on stage with the likes of Neil Young, George Harrison, and Al Green to name a few. |

Vision 2030 Project Comments are sought on a far-reaching Vision for North Adams’ future. The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee invites residents, business and property owners to comment on a Vision Statement developed for North Adams: Vision 2030. The Vision forms the backbone of the Comprehensive Plan. Comments can be left via the city website or people can review posters at City Hall, the library or the Spitzer Center. Contact the Office of Community Development for more information. Please submit your comments no later than April 30th. |
