MASS MoCA's curator Denise Markonish spent the last three years crisscrossing Canada to view hundreds of exhibitions in museums and galleries, visiting over 400 artists' studios, and making connections with a full range of artists working in Canada today. Markonish's extensive research brings this project the fresh perspective of an informed and curious outsider. While Oh, Canada will ask questions such as "What are some of the distinguishing characteristics of art made in the country?" its aim is not to present a merely nationalistic show. Rather, the goal is to encourage adialogue about contemporary art made in Canada.

Male performers are needed to perform in “The Wildflowers of Manitoba” as part of the upcoming Oh, Canada exhibit at MASS MoCA. In "The Wildflowers of Manitoba," Artists Gonick and Jacob portray queer youth exploring the majesty of the Canadian landscape. The description of the project is as follows: "Housed in a geodesic dome where anonymous flower children slumber, the geometric frame swells withhallucinatory visions of a tribe of nude boy-folk exploring the splendors of the Canadian Prairies. Their wistful wanderings and homo-social activity animate amythical vision of Utopia as a blissfulsensual - and sexual - return to the land. Staged for the camera, yet chasing spiritual transcendence, the set and subjects evoke the spirit of alternative collective lifestyles." Interested performers can contact Matthew Lax: mlax@massmoca.org for more information.
