PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Haddad Collision Center will hold a free car seat safety check, scheduled for Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its new Pittsfield location on 25 West Housatonic St.
Haddad Collision Center worked with the Pittsfield Police Department and Safe Kids of Western Massachusetts to bring the car seat safety program to Berkshire County. Mandi Summers, who coordinates the Safe Kids of Western Mass. program through Baystate Health in Springfield, said, "It's been a long time since there's been a car seat safety check in Berkshire County. I'm really happy Haddad Collision Center could provide a location in Pittsfield. I think we're going to be very, very busy."
Collision center manager Matt Clark explained his motivation for organizing the event.
"I have a new granddaughter who's the apple of my eye," said Clark. "When I installed her car seat, even I wasn't sure that I had done it correctly. ... I figured if I was having trouble, and I'm in the business, other people might be in the same boat. When I looked for a car seat safety check in Berkshire County, I couldn't find one. That's when I looked into hosting one at our new collision center."
The car-seat safety check will be held in the parking lot that Haddad Collision Center shares with Haddad Pre-Owned. Volunteers from the Pittsfield Police Department, Safe Kids of Western Mass. and Haddad will inspect childrens' car seats and ensure that they are installed correctly. In the event of rain, the event will be held inside Haddad Collision Center. Participants will need to bring the car seat, the car it is usually in and the child who uses it to the event. The event is free and no appointment is necessary.
