B-HIP SPOTLIGHT Melody Rolph / Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center

SPOTLIGHT

Each week we will be offering a sneak peak into the life of a B-HIP (Berkshire Hills Internship Program, an intensive arts administration program) intern and the institution they are working with. This week it's Melody Rolph.

Melody is going into her senior year at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts where she majors in both arts management and fine and performing arts with a concentration in music. At MCLA, Melody runs and directs the campus's a capella club, the Allegrettos and she is always looking for new productions and student leadership activities to be involved with. She spent many years on the stage of various theaters and never wants to stop performing; however, her most recent focus revolves around managing the performing arts, potentially in the field of festivals. This summer, she has been working as a marketing intern at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Melody has enjoyed learning various tricks of marketing and audience assessment with the wonderful Mahaiwe staff. Throughout the past few months, she has marketed the Mahaiwe season and is happy to have experienced all that the thriving Berkshires have to offer. This Sunday, the 18th  at 7pm, the Mahaiwe has a very special event called Free to Be You and Me. It will be a live panel discussion and audience Q & A with Marlo Thomas, Alan Alda & Letty Cottin Pogrebin about the empowering children's classic and the difference it made. The Mahaiwe has diverse year round programming and offers something for everyone. Melody is most excited to see the contemporary dance company, Pilobolus in the fall and recommends all who have not seen the beautifully renovated theater to check out the Mahaiwe's new website for upcoming performances.

McCann Recognizes Superintendent Award Recipient

By Tammy DanielsiBerkshires Staff

Landon LeClair and Superintendent James Brosnan with Landon's parents Eric and Susan LeClair, who is a teacher at McCann.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Superintendent's Award has been presented to Landon LeClair, a senior in McCann Technical School's advanced manufacturing course.

The presentation was made last Thursday by Superintendent Jame Brosnan after Principal Justin Kratz read from teachers' letters extolling LeClair's school work, leadership and dedication.

"He's become somewhat legendary at the Fall State Leadership Conference for trying to be a leader at his dinner table, getting an entire plate of cookies for him and all his friends," read Kratz to chuckles from the School Committee. "Landon was always a dedicated student and a quiet leader who cared about mastering the content."

LeClair was also recognized for his participation on the school's golf team and for mentoring younger teammates.

"Landon jumped in tutoring the student so thoroughly that the freshman was able to demonstrate proficiency on an assessment despite the missed class time for golf matches," read Kratz.

The principal noted that the school also received feedback from LeClair's co-op employer, who rated him with all fours.

"This week, we sent Landon to our other machine shop to help load and run parts in the CNC mill," his employer wrote to the school. LeClair was so competent the supervisor advised the central shop might not get him back.
